Track Bias: Not significant, this magnificent track has long straight runs and wide sweeping turns which gives every horse the chance to run up to their best. Hard to lead all the way in longer distance races such as the Arc, leaders are often run down in the final charge to the winning post.

History: First run in 1920, named to honour the victory of France and her allies in the first World War. Since the concept was to showcase the European breeding stock, only mares and entire horses  would run, the main target was to compare British horses coming out if the English Derby to those that did well in the French Derby. Many significant stud mares and stallions have come through this race. Winner of the 1942 Arc, Djebel, would be voted Leading Sire in France from 1947 to 1949, by 1956 he had 35 stakes winning offspring who had won 53 races. He also had 35 sons standing as sires around the equine world. Among his successful progeny, Montjeu won this race in 1999 having won the Irish Derby, and his son Hurricane Run won the same 2 races in 2005.
